U of A Little League Softball Days - March 22nd & 23rd
If you volunteered to manage (or if we talked you into managing), please attend the mandatory Managers/Coaches Training session THIS Friday, February 28 from 6 to 8 pm at Triple Play. Team equipment will be handed out after that session. At that session, we will provide you some cool coaching tools, do first aid training, rules education, train you on how to run your team communications from our website and much more.
Another optional, but HIGHLY recommended training for our Managers: The Big Al Clinic has made last minute arrangements to do sessions in Tucson on Wednesday, Feb 26 (coaches of 9-13 y/o players) and Thursday, Feb 27 (coaches of 4-8 y/o players) in the evening at Flowing Wells High School (6 to 9:30 pm). If you are interested, CHLL will pay for your enrollment, but you need to send me an email to request it.
Record Enrollment in the League
This year, we have had BY FAR the highest number of players registered in Copper Hills Little League history (some of our divisions have more players than some other Tucson Little Leagues). As a result, we have to make some last minute changes to some of the divisions to assure that the players get the most out of their experience and we maintain a high level of safety.
One of those changes is that we have decided to split Minor Division Baseball into 2 separate divisions (AAA and AA). AAA will include 8, 9, 10, & 11 year olds who have played minors in the past. AA would include 7, 8, 9 , & 10 year olds who are moving up from coach pitch or might not be ready for advancement to AAA (this is similar to how most other large leagues structure minors right now). AAA will play similar to our past minor division rules. One of the key differences is that AA will play normal kid pitch until a batter has 4 balls, and then a coach will do machine pitch for 2 pitches (guaranteed a quality pitch to hit). One of the results of this split is that some Special Requests could not be honored in order to make sure that the right players are assigned to the right division. Please understand that we have to think about all 600 kids in the league and sometimes it makes it hard to do special requests for 1 or 2.
Parents, please be patient. Teams are still being formed, and coaches have not yet begun to contact players. This will begin to happen after next weekend. This week, you should be able to log into the CHLL website and see the team they are assigned to and their practice schedule. Please wait until after March 5 to let us know if your player has not been notified.
Junior & Senior Divisions (Baseball & Softball)
We are still accepting registrations for players! We also need manager/coach volunteers.
Junior division practices will likely begin in mid to late March. If there are enough players for more than 1 team, we will start in late March with large group practices and then select teams around the 1st of April.
If we have enough registered players for senior division teams, practices will start in April (after the High School JV season). Stay tuned for more info.
